Rays place Wander Franco, Kevin Kiermaier on 10-day IL


The Tampa Bay Rays positioned infielder Wander Franco and outfielder Kevin Kiermaier on the 10-day injured checklist on Saturday evening. 

Franco left the Rays’ 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Cincinnati Reds after fouling off a Hunter Greene pitch. After the sport, Franco told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times that he was injured “simply on that straightforward swing.” 

Rays’ supervisor Kevin Money stated that Franco is probably going coping with a hamate damage, a bone on the surface of the wrist. Franco will see hand specialist Dr. Doug Carlan on Monday for additional analysis, per Money. 

In line with Topkin, if Franco wants surgical procedure, he may miss six to eight weeks. 

In 57 video games, Franco is batting .261/.309/.398 with 5 dwelling runs and 23 RBI. 

Kiermaier not too long ago returned to the Rays’ lineup on June 1 after spending time on the IL with hip inflammation

After hitting a single within the ninth inning Saturday evening, Kiermaier was pulled for pinch-runner Brett Phillips. 

“My hip simply did not really feel nice, and Money determined to take me out to have Philly attempt to swipe a base proper there,” Kiermaier stated. “I wasn’t shifting nearly as good as I might prefer to, in order that was the choice.” 

When requested if he envisioned lacking time, Kiermaier responded, “TBD.”
